The Academy for Sports Dentistry (ASD) is committed to promoting the growth of sports dentistry nationwide. One of our goals is to have a Student Affiliate Chapter in every dental school across the United States—and we want you to be part of this exciting movement!

Sports dentistry isn’t always fully covered in dental school curriculum. By starting a student chapter, you can bring valuable education, leadership opportunities, and professional connections to your campus—all while learning in a fun and meaningful way.

What Is a Student Affiliate Chapter?

A Student Affiliate Chapter is a recognized student group at your dental school that is affiliated with ASD. Through this chapter, students gain access to specialized resources, mentorship, and educational content to explore the exciting and impactful field of sports dentistry.

Step-by-Step: How to Start a Student Affiliate Chapter

Step 1: Connect with Your Peers

Gather a group of interested dental students (ideally 5 or more)
Identify at least one student leader who will serve as the Chapter President

Step 2: Find a Faculty Advisor

Identify a faculty member at your school who supports the initiative and is willing to act as a Chapter Advisor

Step 3: Submit the Chapter Registration Form

Sign up or log in and provide basic information: school name, names of interested students, faculty advisor details, and primary contact information.
If You’re Not Ready to Register Yet: If your group is still organizing and not ready to complete the full registration, you may submit the Interest Form instead. Click here to let us know your school is considering forming a chapter. ASD will follow up with guidance and next steps.

Step 4: Pay the Annual Chapter Fee

ASD Student Affiliate Chapter annual fee is $120 per Chapter (not per student)
This fee covers group access to membership benefits, the journal, and educational resources

Step 5: Get Official Recognition

Once approved, your chapter will be officially recognized by ASD
You will receive an official welcome packet, including access credentials to the journal and speaker list

Step 6: Plan Your First Event!

Use the ASD Speaker List to invite a guest speaker or host an introductory meeting
