THE GREATER CLEVELAND DENTAL SOCIETY SAFE SMILES 2021

GCDS Safe Smiles was once again back in action providing free mouthguards for Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School 2021-2022 football team.

Thank you to Dr. Tom Coreno, Dr. Steve Katz, and Dr. Sam Taylor for once again organizing this event.

Volunteer dentists, residents, and dental office staff came together on Friday, July 23rd at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School to prepare for the day. GCDS member dentist volunteers worked together to set up stations before Dr. Tom Coreno presented an hour orientation before students arrived.

As the student athletes waited for the program to begin, Dr. Jason Streem gave a presentation on the connection between good oral health and athletic performance as well as information regarding the dental profession as a career.

This year the Safe Smiles program provided a brief oral exam and mouth guard impressions to 103 student athletes.

Drs. Tom Coreno, Glenn Goodrich, Chris Harter, Steve Katz, and Sam Taylor met with students on August 13th to deliver and do a final fitting for the mouth guards, as well as taking additional impressions. Each mouthguard was in the school color, with the school team name “Vikings” emblazoned on the front and the student athlete’s name printed on the side.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and sponsors for their help in making this program a great success and a big thank you to the Villa Angela-St. Joseph HS coach Mr. Jeff Rotsky for his help with coordinating this event.

Drs. Dan Brett from Sports Guard and Tom Coreno from GCDS are ASD Members.
