Since 1998 the Academy for Sports Dentistry has been holding live and silent auctions in conjunction with the annual Academy for Sports Dentistry Symposium. The auctions benefit dental trauma research and prevention, sports dentistry research, education, and special projects for sports dentistry. In the past, the program has helped fund the Academy dental trauma card.
This year’s event will begin on Thursday, June 24th with the items being showcased during the symposium and the silent auction will culminate during the President’s Receptionon Friday evening June 25th at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
Past items include a basketball signed by John Wooden, Willie Mays, Lou Brock, Eddie Mathews, and Warren Spawn autographed baseballs, a Bernie Kosar autographed helmet, a baseball bat signed by the 1999 Cincinnati Reds, soccer jerseys from Brazil, a National Champion Rose Bowl cap signed by Coach Larry Coker, autographed photographs, and various unique items such as golf clubs and books.
Please give consideration to contributions for this year’s auction. We would greatly appreciate any autographed or unique sports items or memorabilia that you can donate. All items donated in advance of the symposium will be listed on the new ASD website. Please visit our website Live/Silent Auction page to see what items have been donated so far. On June 24, 2010 Major League Soccer (MLS) all-time scoring leader DC United Jaime Moreno will be attending our symposium. He will be available for pictures, autographs, etc.
The goal is to surpass last year’s fundraising amount of $6040.00. We want to thank everyone who donated items or purchased these items at last year’s auctions. Thanks again to all for helping achieve our goals. Your contributions matter.
